REVIEW: Perfect Little Children

I was lucky enough to win an ARC of this through a Goodreads Giveaway from William Morrow Publishing! I haven’t read anything by Sophie Hannah before, so I was excited to dive into this in order to review it prior to its publication date of February 4.

Perfect Little Children centers around Beth and her family. While driving her son to a soccer game, she decides to drive by the house of her ex-best friend, Flora. They had a falling out about 12 years prior to the events of the story, and little by little the reader finds out why. Beth sees Flora walking into the house — and also sees two children that look exactly like the children she knew twelve years ago. Is it possible that they haven’t grown since then?

Beth becomes quickly obsessed with finding out the truth. She tries to reach out to Flora and Flora’s husband, Lewis and they appear to have moved to Florida. Beth dives even deeper into the drama of this other family by traveling to Florida to see EXACTLY what happened.

This is a fast-paced and suspenseful read. I really had a hard time putting it down. There were lots of twists and turns and I never quite knew who was telling the truth when. Ultimately, the plot seems REALLY implausible and there were a lot of pieces of it that felt kinda icky to me. Trigger warnings galore, especially for child death. This was a 3/5 star read for me because the suspense really made me want to finish.
